Proofreading is only worth what its record is worth. Every title we set goes through six logged passes, corrections are entered one by one rather than in a sweep, and the log is closed by a second reader — so what changed, and who closed it, is written down.

Six logged passes
Each pass recorded against the title rather than counted from memory, so the state of the proof is always known.
Dated correction log
Corrections entered individually and dated. You can see what was raised, what was applied, and what was declined.
Closed by a second reader
The person who entered the corrections is not the person who signs them off.
English and Hindi
Both scripts read by editors who work in them. Devanagari is read, not spell-checked.
Marked proofs
Proofs returned marked, so an author or committee can see the reasoning rather than just the result.
Consistency checks
Names, honours, dates, headings and cross-references checked against your own source lists.

Brief and estimate
We read the manuscript before we price it. Extent and scope decide the figure — never a rate card.
Grid and specimen
Trim, margins, type sizes and leading — approved as a real sample page, not as a description.
Cover directions
Two or three routes, each carried to a finished jacket — spine and back cover included, so the choice is real.
Typesetting
Full pagination with front and back matter in place — imprint, contents, appendices, index, colophon.
Proofs and revise
Marked proofs, corrections entered one by one, and the log closed by a second reader.
Press handover
PDF/X with 3 mm bleed, 300 dpi images, CMYK throughout — imposition-ready, not merely finished-looking.

Questions
The things clients ask first.
What does a logged pass actually mean?
That the pass is recorded against the title with its date and its reader, and that its corrections are entered one at a time. It is the record that makes the count meaningful — six unlogged reads would prove nothing.
Can you proofread work we typeset elsewhere?
Yes. We can read and mark proofs on files we did not set, though how corrections get applied depends on what your setter can accept.
Do you edit as well as proofread?
Yes — copy editing for sense, consistency and register, separately from the proofreading passes that follow setting.
Is Hindi read to the same standard?
Yes. Hindi is read by an editor who reads Hindi. Matra errors and broken conjuncts are not things a spell-checker finds.
